Dave holds a strong and steady career in engineering, starting at Suffolk College in the mid 90’s is where it all began, he was educated in many different areas of engineering and then went on to West Suffolk College where he studied design engineering. His time at college also included an apprenticeship at Crane Fluid Systems.
Dave has held various mechanical engineering jobs before joining EGS in November 2022. He has settled in nicely and become part of our skilled workshop team.
Dave likes to spend his free time, fishing, shooting and has a keen interest in motor bikes.
One of Dave’s biggest achievements is climbing to the top of Mount Toubkal, Morocco, which is North Africa’s highest peak.
Steve began his journey within the engineering industry as an apprentice at Paxman Diesels (now MAN B&W Diesel Ltd) to train to become an Engine Fitter / Tester. Upon completion of his apprenticeship he began working within the motor vehicle trade and in 1985 took an opportunity to return to the large engine and governor overhaul business at EGS.
In 1999, as one of our most experienced staff members, having worked in a number of roles across the company including Test Engineer and Service Engineer, Steve was promoted to Service Manager. With advancements in technology and the gradual progression of the business towards electronic governors and control systems, Steve attended a number of Woodard training courses on digital controls and now within his role as Service Manager, is also responsible for the planning of major retrofit projects.
Steve enjoys the variation and challenges presented within his role in that no two retrofit projects are the same. Even after 27 years of service and seeming to know the business and products inside out, he is still learning as new challenges present themselves.
Tim manages a small team that supports the service and retrofit department by designing and manufacturing parts such as phonic wheels, MPU brackets and modifications necessary for use within retrofit projects.
Tim has been involved in the department since its creation in helping in its set up and coordinating all necessary materials and machinery for use in the earliest projects. The thing he most enjoys in his job at EGS is problem-solving. Tim loves the buzz he gets by overcoming difficult challenges, and is hence a vital member of the team.
In his free time, Tim enjoys anything that allows him to unleash his creative side, such as playing the guitar, attending gigs, and cooking.
Jon began his career within the Control and Instrumentation industry in 1987, an industry in which he still finds himself today. His first job was at Eltime Controls, where he began his training alongside the Chief Design Engineer. He rapidly got to grips with the product range to the extent that he became a point of reference and advice to others on its function.
To further his experience, Jon moved on to the role of Technical Sales Engineer for a manufacturer of electronic relay products. He was particularly successful within this role due to his in depth product knowledge, approachability and good communication which enabled him to effectively convey the appropriate information to customers, even to those not quite so familiar with the industry.
Since joining EGS in 2011, Jon has settled into the team and has become a valuable asset. Within his role he most enjoys the fact that each day is different, the challenge and the satisfaction of solving customer issues and thereby representing the EGS brand.
Kevin joined the company in 1997 and began work in our Cleaning Department. He was keen to improve his position and in 2002 began apprenticeship training alongside our applications engineer focusing on the overhaul of electronic governors.
As a particularly sociable individual and strong team-player, Kevin has naturally adopted a go-between role amongst managers and staff. His sense of humour and happy personality helps to maintain a good atmosphere in the work place.
Kevin is a perfectionist and takes great pride in his work. He likes to ensure that each project he takes on is completed to the highest standard and to the best of his ability.
Finally in his free time, Kevin enjoys going to the gym, and socialising with friends.
Ian joined EGS in 1992 when the company focus was engine overhaul. He started work in the Cleaning Department, then moved up for a short period to engine rebuild and then on to assist on site as an installations engineer.
In 2000 the position for Stores Manager became vacant. Ian was the perfect choice; he had eight years of product knowledge and worked methodically and accurately. His work now covers booking all deliveries in, order collation, packing and booking all despatches out. He is an invaluable member of the team.
Ian enjoys vegetable gardening and is the chairman of his local allotment society. When he has time, he likes to attend motor racing events.
